Below is my first contribution to the Omnis list ( https://lists.omnis-dev.com/mailman/listinfo/omnisdev-en):

    Dear $all,
    dear Omnis listers,

I have been reading, enjoying and benefitting from the Omnis (mailing) list for years now, but it is only now that I write & contribute something (in the Omnis List). And, oh dear 😱, it is something politic!

In times where alliances seem to lose importance and Me-first approaches gain support, I would yet rather follow the conviction of standing together and joining forces – as recently boldly proclaimed by Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum in Davos. But what does that have to do with Omnis?

Well, can we really afford that the ‚middle powers‘ of the Omnis List and the official Omnis Forum co-exist as opposed to join forces?

My impression of the last weeks and months is that on both platforms there is fairly little communication. So why not integrate both platforms into one?

One reason for me not actively using the mailing list is the intrinsic limitations and disadvantages of a mailing list. In that regard, the Omnis Forum is way ahead, although still there is room for improvement.

If independence of the mothership is the reason for maintaining the list, it would be great to create a new, modern, web-based forum managed by the users, not the mothership. But for maintaining two platforms alongside, I think both platforms are too small.

And if the Omnis community wants to grow, we need visibility and a modern approach!

If I was a young or new developer looking for a platform of choice, looking into both Omnis Forum and Omnis List would create the impression that the Omnis platform is clinically dead…

But we want it to survive and thrive, don’t we?

I’d love to hear your views on this!

    Best regards
