Which edition is suitable for me?
The Community Edition is the ideal starting point for developers who want to start creating mobile and web applications for only few users or who want to test the market opportunities without major pre-investments. It is also a suitable edition for hobby developers.
The CommunityPro Edition is suitable for single developers and developer teams who want to build web and mobile applications either for internal use in their companies or for customers and who need scalability, security and availability. The CommunityPro Edition is also the next step for developers who have successfully realized an app development project with the Community Edition and who want to distribute this app(s) to a larger number of users.
The Professional Edition provides developers and developer teams with the highest level of flexibility, scalability, security and service. It is the right choice for anyone who wants to build and deploy mobile, web and desktop applications with any popular database backend.
Is the Community Edition really free?
The Community Edition is a great choice for start-ups and for developers who want to develop their first project with Omnis Studio or work on an app for a small group of users. It is indeed free of charge. There are no hidden fees and you don’t have to commit to anything.
You can build up to two mobile and/or web apps with the Community Edition, but free deployment is limited to 5 concurrent users.
If your apps are successful and you want to deploy them to a bigger number of users you should upgrade to the Omnis Studio CommunityPro or Professional Edition.
What is included in the free Community Edition?
The Omnis Studio Community Edition is suited for mobile and web apps with small numbers of users and ideal for developers who are new to Omnis and want to implement their first project(s) with Omnis.
It includes everything you need to design and develop mobile and web apps and to deploy them to up to 5 concurrent users. You can build up to two mobile and/or web apps with the Community Edition, but free deployment is limited to 5 concurrent users.
It is free – so simply download and get started immediately.
Can I upgrade from one edition to another edition at any time?
Yes, you can upgrade from one edition to another edition at any time. You simply subscribe to the edition you want to use and enter the serial number of the edition you have been using so far. You will receive a new serial key which you can enter and continue to work on your project with all features of your new edition.
When should I upgrade from the Community Edition to a CommunityPro Edition?
Typically, you will upgrade to the Omnis Studio CommunityPro Edition if the apps you developed with the free Community Edition turn out to be successful and you want to deploy them to bigger numbers of users.
Upgrading is easy – you’ll keep your user account and all the apps that you have already built. Simply go to our store or contact us to sign up for a CommunityPro Edition subscription, and you’ll receive a new license key from us. It’s that simple.
When would I upgrade from the CommunityPro Edition to a Professional Edition?
The Omnis Studio CommunityPro Edition is a powerful environment for building complex business applications but it is limited to the Omnis JavaScript Client technology for developing web and mobile apps with a PostgreSQL backend. The Professional Edition gives you the option to develop desktop apps, too which are fully compatible with your mobile and web apps, and it adds more flexibility and power as it provides you with data access modules to all other popular database systems including Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, SAP HANA and all ODBC and JDBC compatible DBMS.
You can always upgrade your platform subscription from Omnis CommunityPro to Professional Edition.
Is the Community Edition a good choice for schools?
Schools and other educational institutions may use the Community Edition for teaching application development however, Omnis Software offers special packages for educational institutions which include all advantages of the Omnis Studio Professional Edition and are better suited for academic use. What are the benefits of the new Omnis subscription model?
The new Omnis subscription model is an alternative option for developers. Instead of a lifetime license model that locks you in for years and requires a significant upfront investment, the subscription-based licensing allows you to always stay on the latest version of Omnis Studio and to pay month by month and only as long as you are using Omnis Studio.
Do I have to commit to a minimum term?
For developer license subscriptions you don’t have to commit to a certain minimum term and can choose to pay monthly or annually.
If for some reason you no longer wish to subscribe in the future you can easily terminate by contacting us.
Does my subscription expire automatically?
No, your developer license subscription continues to run until you terminate it. You can terminate your subscription at any time with 30 days notice.
Your subscription will expire automatically when you fail to pay a subscription fee. In this case we will send you a reminder within 2 weeks after due date. If we haven’t received your payment 2 weeks after this reminder Omnis Software will notify you about the termination of your subscription and your Omnis Studio developer license will stop working.
What happens when my subscription expires?
The subscription fee is generally required each month and year that you want to use the product (i.e. your license is not lifetime). If a subscription is terminated,
- Your Omnis developer license will cease to operate unless you purchase a lifetime license of Omnis Studio;
- You will no longer be able to use Omnis Studio to view or edit your projects;
- You would not have access to any new updates, bug fixes, or tech support.
If you terminate your client license subscriptions they will cease to operate.
